I Hope You Dance - LeeAnn Womack (2000) & There Goes My Baby - Trisha Yearwood (1998)
and they still make me cry. it's amazing how i can remember this while being so young.

My Dad listened to old old country only.He had a reel to reel player with huge speakers.State of the ark stereo equipment at the time. Each reel had like 9 hours of music on it and he had a ton of them.On them was Hank Sr,Hank Snow,Earnest Tubb,Ray Price,Sgt Barry Sadler (as he was a 20 year Military Vet) just to name a few. My Mom liked the old country as well as the current country at the time.

Then being the youngest of four,I had one Brother who was into a lot of hard/alternative rock such as Black Sabbath,Elvis Costello,Bowie, another bro who was into the more mellow folky sometimes kind of country music,(This is the one who turned me on to John Prine and Jimmy Buffet at an early age),then a sister who was into all the pop acts,Shawn Cassidy,Leif Garret, which turned to Michael Jackson and Madonna through the 80's...Soo,I got everything growing up whether I wanted it or not, which probably accounts for my strange taste of music in all genres that I have to this day.One thing for sure,I definitely knew what Country was or wasn't by age 10.

I was raised on country music. In fact, my dad forbade me from listening to rock and roll. That hung in until I was 13 and discovered Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" on the jukebox in the bowling alley next to where my parents worked.

Interestingly enough, although I love the things that were popular when I was little (Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton), most of my favorite music can be found from BEFORE I was born -- the 40s and 50s (Ray Price, the Louvin Brothers, Jim Reeves, Carl Smith, the Delmore Brothers).

I was, thank god. I couldn't have imagined not loving this awesome music. I grew up with the 90's so I have a lot of childhood memories with it and I was raised on the old stuff.

I remember having a doll when I was four, and I named her Maria. When "My Maria" by Brooks and Dunn came out shortly after that, it quickly became my new favorite song. Still love that song to this day!
