I recently attended a concert where the rock bands intro was what I was told a Johnny Cash song, it was a very dark song and talked about going into town to shoot a lying snake or man down. I cant remember enough of the lyrics for google to give me anything to go on, does anyone know if this is even Johnny Cash? It sounded alot like him but Im not sure. Thanks for any help or leads you all can give me.

There's a song by Steve Earle called "The Devils Right Hand"

It says something like I shot the dog down, shot the dog down, watched the man fall.

This may not be it but it's all I could think of.

Well I knew that snake was my own sweet Dad

From a wore-out picture that my mother'd had

and I knew that scar on his cheek and his eee-vil eye

He was big and bent and gray and old

And I looked at him and my blood ran cold,

And I said "MY NAME IS SUE! HOW DO YOU DO?

NOW YER GONNA DIE!"

If this rings a bell, it's Johnny all right- "A Boy Named Sue". written by Shel Silverstein of "The Giving Tree" fame.

Was it "Folsom Prison Blues"? Theres a line about shooting a man in reno, just to watch him die, and being stuck in jail.
