Question:
Country fans: What are your views on Kid Rock?

I understand that he is not country, but I've asked in the rock and pop section, and already got their opinions. I'm curious to know if country fans like or dislike seeing him and his band on "country" television, and occasionally on "country" radio. I personally have the utmost respect for him and his band. In fact, he is one of my favorite newer artists in the music scene today. Like him or not, the fact that the guy has talent isn't arguable, in my opinion. I get tired of seeing people in the music scene who can't play note or chord on any instrument, can't hold a note, and just aren't at all original. Didn't mean to turn this into a rant. Anyways, what are your views on the guy? Like him? Why or why not?

I wrote my opinion about the Band Perry in another answer and it included Mr. Ritchie (Kid Rock). There just isn't any other outlets for singers and musicians these days. "Pop" Music really doesn't exist, anymore. It was replaced by rap, hip-hip and dance music. These acts know that Country Music comes with a built-in base of concert-going, music-buying fans that doesn't exist in Pop Music today. Kid Rock is a talented guy. It's difficult to put any label on him, but "Country-Western" isn't one of them.

As a fan of both and having friends with diehard attitudes on both sides, I can't really pick out one for sure. Not all indie lovers automatically hate a band if they get a record deal with a major label. That could even boost their sense of "accomplishment", thought process being "I knew this band before they were popular, YES." But when it comes to that being the only reason to actually enjoy music, then it would seem that the prog-head holds the advantage. Going back to the progressive side, it does seem that progressive music lovers tend to have a liking for the construction of the music itself, and not how weird or out-there the music sounds, like an indie freak might. That being said, if a prog-head only listens to music that's in C# Mixoldian-Dorian alternating from 17/16 to 13/32 played on a 9 string guitar, a double-neck chapman stick and a 483 piece drum kit, their view of other music becomes much more strained. I could debate with myself for days (and not figuratively either, ah, schizophrenia xD), lol. MA1: Depends on what you mean by myopic. It could be ambiguous or not at all a double entrende. MA2: I love indie music, don't get me wrong. The quirky-ness yet fun songs that you can get from an indie band can't be duplicated by any genre. MA3: Since I'm primarily a prog-head, however, I will say that, being a cello player for 8 years, I have much more appreciation for the more musically accomplished. There's nothing wrong with ABACA song structures and fun hooks, but prog just clicks with me, if you get what I'm saying. Indie? Probably the Flaming Lips. You can't get that kind of pure happiness from other bands. Prog? Eeeeeegh. If I HAD to pick one, I'd probably go with.... damn, I can't pick one, so I'll say Spastic Ink and Dream Theater.

I really like him. Sure he's not country, but I don't mind him being on country stations or shows. I love his voice...

and every says that no one knows what real country is and blah blah blah..but the fact is that everything changes in time, including music. They make music to fit the modern world. Most people I've talked to find 'old' country to be really annoying, so the industry is keeping up with the world instead of sticking with something that doesn't sell. I listen to both 'old country' and 'new country' music and I like them both. People are just too close-minded about things, and they freak out about things that are not a big deal at all... sorry I went off on a rant

Ok, here we go. I used to own the album "cocky". I like Kid ROCK, when he sings rock. (even though I think he's dirty and needs to wash his hair already). BUT when people call him country, the burns my buttons. Plus I can't stand any of the so-called "country" songs he sings. I also think its crap that Jamey Johnson is OPENING for him on his next tour. C'mon Jamey, you're better then that. All Summer Long is a total rip off of Sweet Home Alabama, and Werewolves of London. If he would stay singing rock, that'd be fine. Oh, and for people who still don't know... He's NOT related to the Williams family.

Okay, first off - I'm "old" at 46, but I REALLY have grown to like him in the last 10 years.

Sure, he's not "true" country... but he is incredibly "Southern Rock" and is beginning to fit in to "Country" music. I think a key to his change is he is almost 40 and has had enough trouble with the law and is looking for a fan-base outside of "metal-rap".

A GREAT number of musicians are trying to swing over into the Country-Genre... I think Kid Rock will find a niche.

He isn't country. The ONLY way he gets away with that is that 99% of the people under 25 have never been able to hear real country music on commercial outlets. He's calling himself "country" for the same reason most of the other rockers who've suddenly "discovered their country roots" do: their music is selling like Sterno cans in Hades in their actual genre.

That aside, I totally disagree that he possesses an ounce of talent. If he's talented, why did he have to steal from "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Werewolves of London?" I assure you "All Summer Long" would never have been recorded if the two people he ripped off in that song, Ronnie Van Zant and Warren Zevon, had still been living.
