Of course. I think most classic Country Music Fans over here have
heard it.It was very popular over here at the time. I can't see why
there should be a reaction it was just a good song.

I ain't brittish but that's a great song and Johnny Horton does a great job singing it. I love his war ballads.

Certainly.
It was covered here by Lonnie Donegan who changed 'bloody' to bloomin' I can't recall if JH version charted.
He made some good stuff in his short life
