Songs like Buck Owens "Streets of Bakersfield" or the Highwaymen "Highwaymen". Also David Frazell's "Goin to Hire A Wino" often reminded me of my youth. Find a classic AM radio station and all those songs will be there for you to reminisce and relive your Branson days. If you can't find one locally, try the internet and look for classic country, or even cable television has radio on it and many styles, like Classic, Outlaw, Bluegrass, etc. Classic country was a bigger part of my youth than I ever realized and can't get enough of it today.

Dark as a Dungeon by Merle Travis. Part of it has to do with having lived in western Kentucky (where Travis was from), in the coal mining areas, where I saw firsthand the lemmings, for want of a better term, following their fathers and grandfathers into that hellish life such as Travis describes in the spoken introduction. For the most part, however, it is the lyrics that paint a picture of life in the mines as vividly -- more so! -- as any video could. "Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard his wine / A man will have lust for the lure of the mine" is simply one of the best lines ever written by anyone in any genre of music.
