Good OLD country songs for young women?
?

I sing a lot and my next venture is going to be singing at retirement centers. I live in Utah so its pretty country around here, especially with the older crowd. Anyone know of any great old country songs? I already have some patsy cline, brenda lee, silver wings by merle haggard and jolene by Dolly Parton. But I need a few more songs!

Thanks!

Kitty Wells - It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, Making Believe

The Davis Sisters - I Forgot More That You'll Ever Know

Skeeter Davis - The End of The World

Dottie West - Country Sunshine, A Lesson In Leaving, Here Comes My Baby (Back Again)

Jeanne Pruett - Satin Sheets

The Carter Family - Wildwood Flower

Patsy Montana - I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart

ANYTHING by Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline (esp Honky Tonk Girl, Blue Kentucky Girl, You Ain't Woman Enough, Fist City, etc from Loretta and Walkin' After Midnight, I Fall To Pieces, Sweet Dreams, She's Got You, etc from Patsy). You might wanna stay away from their signatures though, Coal Miner's Daughter and Crazy, respectively, because I don't think anyone but them can pull those off

Here's some from the fellas that a girl could probably do well

George Jones - She Thinks I Still Care (Patty Loveless covered this and changed it to "he", The Grand Tour, Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes, When the Grass Grows Over Me, Why Baby Why

Hank Williams - Your Cheatin' Heart, Lovesick Blues, I Can't Help It Of I'm Still In Love With You, You Win Again, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, Hey Good Lookin', etc (the first 4 were covered by Patsy Cline & Martina McBride, so you might wanna check those out = )

Faron Young - Goin' Steady, Live Fast Love Hard Die Young, Wine Me Up, I Miss You Already, Four In The Morning, etc

Marty Robbins - Don't Worry Bout Me, I Walk Alone

Ray Price - Heartaches By The Number, Crazy Arms, Make the World Go Away

Eddie Arnold - You Don't Know Me

Ernest Tubb - Walkin' The Floor Over You, Waltz Across Texas, Thanks A Lot

Jim Reeves - Distant Drums

Hank Locklin - Please Help Me I'm Falling, Send Me The Pillow You Dream On

Bobby Bare - 500 Miles, Detroit City

Don Gibson - Sea of Heartbreak, I Can't Stop Loving You

Porter Wagoner - Misery Loves Company

Bill Monroe - Kentucky Waltz

Webb Pierce - I Ain't Never, More and More

Buck Owens - Above and Beyond, My Heart Skips A Beat, Waitin' In Your Welfare Line

Lefty Frizzell - If You've Got The Money

Merle Haggard - Today I Started Loving You Again, (All My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers, Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Star

Ferlin Husky - Wings of a Dove

hope some of these help!!!!

Go to Yahoo music and select Vintage Country or Era....listen to the songs and select your choice, then you can search online for the lyrics.

You did not mention the most famous from those eras.......Tammy Wynette (Stand by Your Man), Loretta Lynn (Coal Miners Daughter), Kitty Wells, Melba Montgomery, Lynn Anderson (You never promised me a Rose Garden), Connie Smith and the list goes on, but these are some they will remember.

Garth Brooks had a song called "That summer" about a ranchers widow and a young hired hand. The song is off his 1992 "The Chase" album.
