That question has been open for debate many times but it was always my interpretation that she did not because at the very end of the video you see the father and the boy and then she comes running up from behind with her fishing pole to catch up.

I have been thinking of this question seriously for the past 5 yrs when I had a dear friend whom I loved and my mother died a yr later. I like that song also by Tim McGraw. What I have been wanting to do is make a CD for my children and grandchild about how much they have meant to me during my life and nothing Negative in these CD because life is negative enough at times. I have been telling them more and spending more time with them that they are the most important people in my life. I am a major depressant so I feel I can make lives a little depressing for everyone and that is not my intention, but I am giving my wisdom and pray for the best. When it comes to others, I am wanting to turn around and give back the good others have given me thought out my life. I have had many blessing just sometimes forget them. God has been the strongest part in my life and hope to get my children to see how important he can be in there also. Work in-progress.

In the video, I don't think the girl dies. After she gives birth she is running with a fishing pole behind her boyfriend and her child. In the song, yes she dies.

I've never seen the video ... and the lyrics don't make it a simple fact what happens. I think the person who wrote the words wanted people to think about how precious life is ... and how easily it can be taken from us...but leave us with hope that our legacy will live on ....

I think she does die at the end but their son lives and they start again. He's with his son a little girl wants to go fishing with them. I live that song and get so emotional everytime I hear it.

Nowhere in the song does it say that she dies. It does say

"Cause his mamas fading fast" and then it goes into the chorus one more time.

If you watch the video the lady at the end of the video (who is running with the picnic basket) is the exact some lady that was in the alley with him when they were rob.

Prayer works wonders.

The song never says for sure it just says "his mama's fading fast" and johnny dropped to his knees and there he prayed..... then it starts over taking him fishing... i've never seen the video so i couldn't say for sure but the song leads you to belive mama does die.

I remember the video ending looking like she did but then she ran up to join them, so she lived.

I don't know about the video but the song infers that the wife dies and a girl was born and he starts over with her (not as a wife but - you know taking her fishing and such).

Yes she does. She gives birth to their child and then she dies.

"Same old boy

Same sweet girl

Five years down the road

Theres going to be a little one and she says its time to go

Doctor says the babys fine but youll have to leave

cause his mommas fading fast and johnny hit his knees and there he prayed

Take the very breath you gave me

Take the heart from my chest

Ill gladly take her place if youll let me

Make this my last request

Take me out of this world

God, please dont take the girl"

Johnny wants to take her place, wants God to take the breath that he gave him and wants to die instead.

That can't be determined from the lyrics. They just say

"Doctor says the baby's fine,

but you'll have to leave,

'cause his mama is fading fast.

While the lyrics don't say for sure, the video shows that she does live.
