How will Porter Wagoner best be remembered??

I just received a message from okiefan and as we all knew she is in Nashville with Porter's family. The complete funeral plans have not been finalized as yet. Okiefan is in a very emotional state at this time due to the passing of her friend Porter Wagoner. She said she will not be staying for the funeral services but felt the need to be there for the time being to remember her friend and give support to his family. She has asked me to ask all of you to keep saying your prayers for Porter's family as well as all of the fans who have been touched by his passing,

I'm new too this answer web page I'm glad I have come across it.As for as Porter Wagoner I think everyone will remember him for his hummer and his suits batteries not included lol But I met him in the mid 60s.My great uncle use to take me down to the opry. He knew some of the old singer and after the show we go hang out from time to time.Every time I shook his hand he had a strong grip and a great smile.No one will miss him more then his family and close friends.I guess the man up stairs is putting together a real big show and need some more good help

I dont know about everyone else but my fondest memories are of watching his television show and I wish I had cable to revisit it. Mostly, I remember laughing at him interacting with his guests through a song. Seemed like he barely made it through one without looking at them and laughing or making a guest that was performing end up doing the same.



I think he will be best remembered by his own music and that show that brought so many people into our living rooms.



As someone else stated, I feel somewhat grateful for the ability to particiate here and revisit fond memories that I have let fallen by the wayside. Without okies questions, I may have never pulled out all the music that I inherited from my mom.



It is a sad day but I am thankful that he did not spend many many months of suffering and offer my prayers to his family, the music communtty and especially okie as I know she is probably the closest person I can say that I can offer my sincere prayers to.

I think the best eulogy that can ever be offered to Porter Wagoner was given by the late Waylon Jennings, who said of the Thin Man From West Plains, "Porter Wagoner couldn't go pop with a mouthful of firecrackers." He was country, through and through.

Remember his music, the shows and for sure, the flashy suits. That's what I think of when I hear about Porter Wagoner.

When I think of Porter, I automatically think of all those flashy jackets, and the guy that lost Dolly Parton.



Saw him in a Cracker Barrel in Nashville one morning, chain smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. Ironic, for me at least, that he died from lung cancer.

I always enjoyed his show and his part on the Opry. I even ran into him at a music store in Nashville. He was real friendly. He will be missed in the music business and in Nashville, and by us.....music lovers.
